July 2008

July 2008 Events

During the off-season months, the informationals are not scheduled, but I will try to have at least one get together each month over the summer, where we can discuss computers and get your questions answered about your computer, the Computer Club, and maybe some of you will even have some suggestions as to what you want to learn.

Because of my husband's health issues, I have a problem with scheduling a month in advance, how I am going to work it this summer is when I know I'm going to have a week where I can pick a day for one, then I will try to have it announced a week in advance at the coffee's, posted in the lab, and if they maintain the bulletin boards in the summer I will try to get notices posted there also, but the best way is going to be by word of mouth. If you hear I'm having one, call your friends that are here and let them know also! Everyone is going to be welcomed, even if they aren't members of the Computer Club. I will also announce it on the membership list.

There are two subjects I would like to be able to address over the summer and they are: Windows Vista and How to shop safely online. With the price of gas skyrocketing , online shopping and home delivery are increasing dramatically and can be done with little worry if you know how to do it. But there are tricks to the way you shop online safely. In this month’s Bytesize News this month I have started some tips on How to pay for and what to look for when shopping online. I hope to be able to get a session going this month for this. Summer sessions will be open to everyone, not just FPSCC members. So bring your friends and neighbors that have computers or are interested in them.

I have just created a new e-mail group (like our membership group) for FPSCC members only on Safe (on-line) Shopping. On it you would be able to ask questions and share experiences. We could even start a list of good places to shop and places that you've had bad dealings with. This list would require your input also, like places that you've dealt with (good and bad), problem's you've had and things you've learned to look out for. And of course your questions, as I can only throw out so many tips and without you're participation, I run out of tips as I don't know what you're needing to know. This list will be closed to members of FPSCC only so spammers can’t get in and get you names and e-mail addresses for spamming. This way of helping members may work better for me because of my husband's health issues. If you are a club member and would be interested in this group, send an e-mail to: Lee Rhodes It is open to club members only and you won't be able to post till I approve your membership, all FPSCC members will be approved, but you have to ask to be subscribed. This is not like the membership group, only for those members interested on shopping safely online.

Windows Vista is going to be a big topic this summer as anything with Windows XP on it will get harder and harder to find. And we should be moving forward with the new system but it will take some learning.

Guest Speakers from AZacc

There are no Guest Speakers offered by AZacc in the off season. They do have a list of people willing to speak to clubs from the the local areas, but with the cost of gas this year , we are a bit out of the way for most of them. If we have enough turn out and have a subject that we're really want to hear more about, we could ask the people at TechnologyUSA in Coolidge if they have someone who can talk on it and would be willing to come out.

Southwest Computer Conference

Did anyone of you make it to the conference this time? If so we would like to hear from you about what you did and how you liked it.

Request for Pictures

Lee Rhodes would like to have some newer pictures for updating the pictures under each association's page. These can be pictures of each park in general, or did you take pictures of activities of club functions or even special functions like Caliente's Spring Fling, Florence Garden's Annual Bazaar and White Elephant Sale, or things that show what each area looks like, and annual events that show that there's lots to do here.
Contact Lee Rhodes for information on what you have and how to get it to her. Click on her name and it will bring up an e-mail addressed to her. It's the easiest way to get her and she has copy of the message rather than trying to take notes and remember who to call back if she's busy at the time you call.
